light the plane down there

light the plane down there

is such a strange phrase to say

when indicating where

this weighty object’s trajectory

should come to a gentle end.

oxymoronically the verb

conveys this imperative aptly

through use of our association

with the opposite quality

of that of the airplane’s mass.

we likewise do best at steering

our unwieldy lives on what

seems to be their ideal path

when we approach the task as

just touching a feather in the air.

but that’s not quite accurate

since “light” above is used

in the sense of “set down”

yet my poetic connotation is not

lost off its own trajectory here.
