Lil Laminated Collages -- Spring Arts Month Art Show Opening

For several hours, I'll be hanging out on the edge of the SFS Bakery (masked, of course, because the best art has always been produced by raccoons and bandits) to chat with people interested in my little laminated collages that will be hanging inside there. Each is 8 3/4" X 12" and will sell for $60. You can see them here.

The show will be up from April 3 -- April 30, 2021.

Many thanks to the SFS Bakery owners, who have long been keen supporters of local art!

Spring Arts Walk 2019

Join Jim Burlingame and Jeanne Murdock-Zvonchenko as they show off new and old collages, in their distinctly different styles. (You can see examples of my collages here and here). And examine Off White and Faith Hagenhofer's chronicle of their "30 Days & 30 Nights" journey by train, from St. Paul, MN, to Portland, OR. And check out Schwartz's -- the latest spin-off business of the San Francisco Street Bakery! This show will be up through late May.

Jim & Jeanne’s Collage Show Opening

Join Jim Burlingame and Jeanne Murdock-Zvonchenko -- two old friends with two very different styles of collage art -- as they open their month long joint show at the downtown Olympia cafe Bar Francis. We met decades ago, as coworkers at the restaurant The Pleasant Peasant (where the New Moon Cafe is now), and only in the last year realized we both have a penchant for cutting bits of images out and moving them around into compositions that somehow just feel right. You can see examples of Jim's art here. You can contact Jeanne about her art here.

Reading at Browsers Book Shop

Join me at at downtown Olympia's esteemed Browsers Book Shop, where I'll read from the Introduction to Building Ghosts: A Month of Empty Commercial Properties in a Capital City, and the History that Haunts Them. I'll give an update (with a PowerPoint slide show) on the status of the locations I photographed in 2014, then lead an open discussion on the many issues my book touches on: from the ambiguity of accountability for urban blight to what desirable architecture looks like to the reasons why our city has changed the way it has over time.

Where: 107 Capitol Way N, Olympia, WA, 98501 (Upstairs)

Building Ghosts is available for sale at Browsers Books, Orca Books, and Last Word Books in Olympia; The Queen Anne Book Company in Seattle; Brilliant Moon Books in Shelton; Village Books in Bellingham; and at buyolympia.com. Also: The Olympia, Lacey, Tumwater, and Evergreen libraries! And right here.

Reading at Orca Books

Join me at Orca Books, where I'll read from the Introduction to Building Ghosts: A Month of Empty Commercial Properties in a Capital City, and the History that Haunts Them, give an update on the status of the locations I chronicled, then lead an open discussion on the many issues my book touches on: from the ambiguity of accountability for urban blight to what desirable architecture looks like to the reasons why our city has changed the way it has over time. If you want, I'll draw a sad, empty building in your copy of Building Ghosts!

Where: 509 4th Avenue E, Olympia, WA 98501
