sky the color of smoke

sky the color of smoke

sky like smoke

a smokey cast to the sky

the sky at dusk

a dusky hue out there

a glimpse of grey

now you see it

through those slits

it’s grey up there

like smoke from the fire

you haven’t lit

a different sky tonight

the same sky seen differently

from this angle by the hearth

sky seen by me from here

a sky torn in strips

by the space above the curtains

like something tape’s pulled away

sky the color of grey

grey where there was sky

before something pulled it away

the fire in my mind

that I’m thinking I’ll wait

until dusk has passed to make

I don’t want my smoke to be seen in the sky

that’s not my smoke up there

you see sky the color

like brown the color or red

but what’s this you think

is that the start of something

a line of dashes at the top of the room

blanks to be filled in when you have the time
